There is also the economic warfare & cyber weapons angle, as with fin fisher use to spy by Bahrain on its dissidents recently. Fin fisher is a military grade malware to spy realtime on people, it could listen to your smartphone's mic even when turned off!

Indians need to get out of ideology and isms

Indians need to get out of isms- especially the socialist-capitalist discourse. Follow if you must 1 ism- realism. Russia today is increasingly capitalist, has been imperialist always. US has Obamacare.

A  chart of reality

Communist              Socialist                                                                        Capitalist
_________________________________________________________________________________
|                                       |                                                                                                        |           Cuba                                         Russia        China                          US           Korea, Japan

US could have cosied up to India after 1962 China war. But later during late 1960s & 1970s US and China were courting so India was the third partner in the love triangle. I am no Nehru fan but lets not commit same mistake as him- Chinese are our socialist "brothers". The Swadeshi Jagran Manch for example wants local manufacturing but not an LED is made in India. Invest in manufacturing at least if not R&D.

Moreover Pakistan was the suitable boy (stooge) for big brother Uncle Sam. India didn't want to get into cold world conflict but was eventually drawn in when US sent its 7th fleet to aid Pakistan in 1970s,

Last but not the least lets not listen to the victims narratives. The 70s politicians suffered at Indira Gandhi's hands but for all her faults she was a hardcore nationalist. Lets not get into Indiara as CIA-KGB stooge conspiracy theories floated by Swamy & the like.

My 2 aanna on AIB Roast

AIB has indeed pushed the envelop (crossed boundaries ) & I mean in all interpretations by way of wordplay pun. They have pushed the envelope the same way we remember the scene from Bollywood movies where a babu is bribed under the table in an envelope filled with a wad of cash.

I have no qualms in accepting I enjoyed the roast. Why shouldn’t I admit it? Many of the jokes were the ones we used to make in our hostel corridors about Karan Johar for example. And its been a win-win situation for all involved. I wouldn’t delve into the “alleged” hypocrisy of certain celebs. Karan Johar has for far too long been associated with “class” films not “mass” ones. He probably wants a piece of the pie that Salman Khan & Akshay Kumar have. And what better time than a time when Kapil Sharma is a household favourite. Even if a 5 year old goes around showing the babiji ka thullu to everyone he picked on his show.

Earlier “family audiences” didn’t watch movies that had an expletive/abuse word like harami e.g. Today such qualms don’t exist as evident from recent Salman Khan, SRK movies. “Elitists” might reject it as “crass” but you know what- it sells! Karan Johar & YRF would get to push the envelop to move into the mass market as just NRI collections aren’t big enough anymore. After all how many times can you remake DDLJ in an year? I think I’ve seen it atleast 5 times each year ending with Humpty Sharma! Yaar ek hi script ko kitni baar beche?! Ab to audience bhi pak chuki hai :P

The bad boy image might make Ranveer Singh into Ranbir Kapoor & Arjun Kapoor wouldn’t have to play Chetan Bhagat again. Win-win situation for all. Classic American. J

Also AIB became a national discussion. I found people discussing AIB in eateries who hadn’t heard of it before. AIB found its mass audience outside the internet thanks to the mainstream media discussing them. Everyone asked 1 question- ye AIB kya hai? Kaun hai?

I won’t get into the debate of morality for fear of being labelled a sangha, tough I am! Par is desh me 3 cheez bikti hai- entertainment, entertainment aur entertainment. Aur AIB entertainment hai.

P.S: Bahut gareeb aadmi hun. Please don’t file an FIR on me

Illegal Internet Market Shut Down

Last November, a website popularly known as Silk Road 2.0 ( https://silkroad6ownowfk.onion) on the “dark web”  of was taken down & its alleged online administrator Blake Benthall(@blakeeb on twitter), a software developer, arrested ( as in, its servers seized) as part of operation Onymous in a joint operation between 16 member nations of Europol, the FBI, and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“Dark web” is a part of “deep web”. The sites we browse are a small fraction of the internet- there’s below the surface something atleast 4000-5000 times larger- the deep web. This part of the internet is not indexed by search engines, i.e. you cannot find them through a simple Google search. These may be sites that don’t want its content showing up on search engines through various methods. They may also be used for personal records, archives, secret communications & at times ven crime.

They can only be searched through special search engines like Deep Peep, still not displaying meaningful content. Most such websites would open up only when certain strings are passed to them & a dynamic website would load then. Certain among them have .onion suffixes that cannot be opened directly & can be accessed via VPNs or TOR.

TOR, short for The Onion Router, was originally designed to bypass surveillance & censorship & is used widely by activists to protect their privacy. However you could also access deep web websites using it.

Now, the dark web is that part of the deep web that is mostly used for criminal activities- sale of illegal arms, drugs, stolen credit card information, etc. Some such popular sites are Evolution & Agora. There was a Silk road that was taken down sometime back. Very soon Silk Road 2.0 came up. Before being taken down, Silk Road 2 was estimated to be selling $8 million/month worth of illicit goods with more than 150,000 active users. For a comparative idea, flipkart recently crossed the $3 billion/year. That would make it a bigger marketplace than flipkart, that too working in illegal sales alone. And it had been around for just an year!

An undercover Homeland Security agent was put in Silk Road 2.0′s and work his way up. Through that operation, the agent said he was able to interact directly with Defcon, code name for Blake. This will be pretty damning for Blake in his hearings as then tracing bitcoin transactions Silk Road 2 accepted payments in would be irrelevant.

There’s already a Silk Road 3.0(http://reloadedudjtjvxr.onion/login.php) accessible only through TOR & the like) though & Evolution and Agora which have always been more popular exist. Also certain criminals are using Open Bazaar, listing their products as legal ones but selling them in code names, the way drugs are sold in the offline market.

Whatsapp's blue ticks

Everyone was shocked at noticing the read feature on whatsapp in the form of blue ticks. Earlier just delivery of message was shown by grey double ticks.

However, in a short & sweet way I would highlight a symbolism.

Did you notice ticks are blue(Facebook's color scheme) & not green(whatsapp's color scheme)??

Maybe the move is to wean away people from whatsapp to facebook's messenger which also searches out people by phone numbers whose phone numbers have been made public on their Fb a/c. It also offers to be your default SMS client.

In case you are unable to understand, Facebook recently has acquired Whatsapp. :D

AAPCon

We can oppose AAP on the following points:

1. George Orwell in his book Animal Farm gives a good critique of Stalin's Russia. Also applicable to AAP.

2. His book 1984 predicted fall of USSR in 1949. Similar forces are trying to break India now.

Dog Country- part 1

Once upon a time, a gang of dogs raped a bitch. A passer-by dog thought of saving her & barked loudly at the pack. But the full pack of bastard dogs charged at him and wounded him a little. He got frightened and ran away. He thought that neither do I drink or smoke, a complete teetotaler nor do I eat pork or beef, then my conscience would be clean- my act of cowardly would be covered by my idealistic thoughts that I preach to my fellows. On top such anti-social fights & heroic stunts would not be pleasing to his breed's panchayat. His breed was supposed to study and work hard.

After that incident, the dog got insomniac, lost sleep nor could he eat properly. He lost appetite & started getting thinner by the day. He started becoming more & more reserved and unsocial. Slowly but surely he slipped into doggie depression. He tried meditation, exercise and self-help books all to no avail. Finally one day he decided to end his sorry doggie life and consumed iron nails. But the next day he woke up to find himself in an afterlife that was the same as his last- an exact parallel universe. This world was magical but yet real. Here a dog cared for none but himself and found his destiny, written in an old book. He went to drink water and found that he had developed a distinct scar in his throat and fierce marks on his jaw- like the warriors of ancient lores.

Gagged history?

Whenever I read a book on Indian politics or watch a movie that has patriotic undertones, I remember one thing- my days in junior and high school. I was in an ICSE school run by missionaries till my 10th standard. For one thing, the history taught to us through he recommended in our curriculum had a strong Anglican(British) bias, especially with regard to Indian history. (That also reminds me of a particularly nasty midget who taught us. She had asked me for a "parent call" because she though I was over smart because I had the audacity to ask questions like where are the Polynesian islands, who had great sailors, that are talked to of in the books.)

My tryst with NCERT books or other history books dealt with in BA courses has been very recent and brief, so I wouldn't like to comment much on them. But still I would like to make a point. There has been very little said about the revolutionary freedom fighters. I deliberately avoided the term militant nationalists as since a long term it didn't appeal to me and seemed derogatory. On top the terms insurgents, terrorists and militants are often spoke of in the same breath. Due to reading these words mainly in newspaper columns, many assume these as same. However, a look at the dictionary will reveal the true nature of these words that are markedly different.

It is true that their contribution has been limited, partly because of their short life spans but they represent a school of thought & most importantly laid down their lives for their freedom. It is often said that history is written by the victors. Also history is what actually happened & not what might have happened. But just for these reasons do we write them off totally. We don't have a few pages dedicated to each of these revolutionary freedom fighters. Only some of them are thought worthy of a detailed history for the school students. The rest are just mentioned in very brief and concise words.

Even when there has been drastic revision or tampering as to say in the BJP government, the focus was on saffronising the books rather than put an Indian focus to our history. Are we satisfied to be remembering them just through stray movies or do we atleast now demand to have a proper history  be taught to the young. Or have we just forgotten their sacrifice? A mentioned in the movie Rang de Basanti, do we think that these people were foolish to die for their motherland?? Just because we are cowards, do we want no brave person to be glorified?!

Pragmatic and real change

Recently, the Anna Hazare protests drew a lot of publicity. Initially, people rejected him as fluke but they are now hailing him now that he's successful. This is human hypocrisy- all want to be on winning side.

However, few know that the last time he went on strike, 400 Maharashtra officials were suspended, 6 ministers had to resign and the Maharashtra and central RTI act came to the form we know them today. He's result oriented. Random actions are of no use. Even fewer know he's an ex-armyman who also has been to war for the country.

You cannot change the system being in the system! Had Anna Hazare been a politician or had political ambitions or motives, people wouldn't have taken him seriously.

Today's confused youth must understand this and refrain from all student politics, drunken brawls, ego wars etc.. the only way that they can bring change is by being above the system- the peope who make the system-civil servants, the people in executive and judiciary.

There's a nuance to the Lokpal bill. Earlier the ruling congress or any other party never feared laws. They made them and broke them. But once a lion like T N Seshan, a top-notch IAS with excelent record, revamped the Election Commissioner's(EC) office, all are wary of a civil servants power. Anna Hazare has only prevented a weak law to be made and helped bring  a stronger set of laws. BUT the real implementation will be by the civil servants. If we have people like T N Seshan, slain IPS Mehta and people like Anna Hazare(who bring the public out of illusion of news channels) then only we'll rock!!

JAI HIND!!

P.S: Much of the thoughts are my friends' that came out from a discussion some time back..

The enemy of my enemy is my enemy

In the recent fast by Anna Hazare, the BJP which has always talked about bringing back black money from tax havens backed out. Even in West bengal, Mamata bannerjee has political reasons to displace the left. But i'm sure she'll only abuse power when she achieves it. the left came to power in bengal years ago due to an oppressive congress government...

the only conclusion is that the enemy of my enemy need not be my friend. he's actually my enemy!

i do hate the left but i'm a realist..

mountain dew's like moonshine in us.. illicit liquor,...hooch/ tharra

now absinth's yellow in color so is mountain dew!

i remember i started sooft drinks bcuz in school i felt i was "drinking" bottoms up!

Hiow poultry industry robs us!!

In bird flu season, black-marketed(not officially sold) chicken in almost 10 times cheaper. pardon me if i'm wrong. let this cost be"x".

Now in non-bird flu times, let the cost be "y"

but y >>x,   y is much greater than x

but even in bird flu season, if someopne buys black-marketed chicken, then he's addicted to it. so definitely the trader is having a profit, though little.. he'll atleast try to break even.. on top of that, much of his poultry was culled by government, so he'll try to recover that cost..

so in a sense, chicken has a profir margin of around=  10*100%=1,000%
